ControlPlaneRequests (Diagnostic Log)
← Back to DP-420 Terminology Reference
Category: Maintenance & Security
Summary: Logs account control-plane operations, e.g. adding/removing replication regions.
Overview
ControlPlaneRequests is a diagnostic log table that logs control-plane operations performed against an Azure Cosmos DB for NoSQL account — such as adding or removing regions in the replication settings, updating throughput, or changing account-level configuration — as opposed to data-plane operations (item reads/writes). It is useful for auditing administrative changes to the account over time.

DP-420 Style Practice Questions
Q1. What kind of operations does the ControlPlaneRequests diagnostic log table capture?
- A. Account-level control-plane operations, such as adding or removing replication regions
- B. Item-level read and write operations
- C. Query execution statistics
- D. Change feed processor checkpoints
Q2. Why would you consult ControlPlaneRequests logs?
- A. To audit administrative changes such as region additions/removals or throughput updates over time
- B. To find which query consumed the most RUs
- C. To find which partition key is a hot partition
- D. To check TTL expiration events on items
Answer Key
Answers are listed at the very end so you can attempt the questions first.
- Q1 (ControlPlaneRequests (Diagnostic Log)): A. Account-level control-plane operations, such as adding or removing replication regions — ControlPlaneRequests captures control-plane (account/administrative) operations, distinct from data-plane item operations.
- Q2 (ControlPlaneRequests (Diagnostic Log)): A. To audit administrative changes such as region additions/removals or throughput updates over time — This table is used to audit account-level configuration changes, which is distinct from data-plane monitoring tables.
